Video Game career?
Im looking at going into some kind of software or video game design careeer, what courses in college should i take if i want to do this? not what college to go to, what courses, Im looking at like a graphics designer or something, thanks.
Computer programmers commonly hold a bachelor’s degree; however, there are no universal educational requirements. Some hold a degree in computer science, mathematics, or information systems, while others have taken special courses in computer programming to supplement their study in fields such as accounting, inventory control, or other areas of business. Video game/graphic design technology/software?
Alright, heres the deal. I am a fan of video games(no shock there), and every now and then I watch the occasional documentary/video where game designers show you how they made the video game. And I almost always see someone designing a character or alien or sumthing and they are doing it on a computer, but they are using a little pad with a sylus and as they slide the stylus across the pad, whatever motion they made on the pad happens on the computer to make really cool designs and stuff, and it kinda turns out in the style of concept art if that makes sense. (they probably use it for places and buildings too and not just characters)
So here’s the question: What software/program is this? Where can I find it/buy it? Please leave links if possible! Thanks!
The ‘pad’ you mention is a Wacom Graphics tablet – they come in many sizes and variants. There are other brands besides Wacom that make these, but most designers generally agree that Wacom is the way to go.

Speaking for myself, I couldn’t imagine working with a mouse again – my trusty old Wacom tablet has survived many years, and I use it with Windows, Mac, 2d and 3d design software, and so on.
The software you saw the game designers using, is probably 3ds Max, Maya, Lightwave, XSI, Cinema4D or something like that. These do cost money, but if you’re interested in some 3d dabbling, you may want to download the free blender or Truespace.

Both are powerful, free, and can both be used for 3d game design. Blender even has a 3d realtime game engine built in – for an example of what’s possible, visit the open source 3d game that was created using Blender: http://www.yofrankie.org/.
For concept art, either Adobe Photoshop or Corel Painter X (or both) are often used in the game industry. When used with a Wacom tablet it’s like painting/drawing digitally.
By the way, owning a tablet does not mean you automatically become a good designer – it’s just a tool in the end, obviously.
