My Mother

Amidst the vicissitudes of life,

you were my companion…

Along its long and wearisome journey,

you were my guide…

At the peek of what seemed an insurmountable challenge,

you were my strength…

Among the myriad of allies and acquaintances,

you were my bestfriend…

On the limelight of victory and fame,

you were my cheerer…

At the bottom of my downfall,

you were my comforter.

In the chaos of my mind,

you gave the answers.

In every smile; every laughter;

you are my sunshine, my joy!

In every tear; every sigh; every pain that I bear,

you gave your shoulders to cry on and ease my burdens away.

Behind every step of determination; every leap of enthusiasm,

you gave me faith.

For every wounded knee; every broken heart;

you taught me lessons only you can impart.

With every hunger of my soul; when loneliness surrounded me,

your love embraced me and would never let go.

There’s never a time that you abandon me,

not a single minute nor a second that you left my side.

We played as partners in the game of life -

its ups and downs,

twists and turns…

Thus,

I can say

That I am truly blessed…

because you’re always there for me -

MY MOTHER, MY FRIEND !..

A poem dedicated to the best mother in the world… MY MOM!

Games Mother Never Taught You Questions

What’s a good video game to teach kids how to read?

My friend’s little brother is 13 and still does not know how to read because his mother is “supposed to be” home-schooling him yet does not make him study. Anyway, he is heavily into anything packed full of action- fighting, skateboarding, karate, weapons, ect.. he does gymnastics and is basically a very hyper-active never stays still kind of kid. He desperately needs to learn to read but the traditional “sit down and read to me” method doesn’t work and he gets frustrated with it. If anyone can suggest a video game that you think would help him learn to read but also keep his attention, I would love you. There’s plenty of computers in his house which he can play games on but he really doesn’t have any game boys or playstations so preferrably suggest something that can played on a computer. Thank so so much!

If that’s the kind of games he’s into, you want to look for a game that’s chock-full of storyline and reading. Mostly role-playing games (RPGs) have this like your Final Fantasys.
But wit hthe games mentioned forehand, it’s going to be hard to throw an RPG to a young, action-filled gamer cause RPGs take thought and reason before you hit all the action.
Odin Sphere for the PS2 is good and you’re always playing through tough battles and it handles like a traditional 2D game but with a thick storyline and beautiful animation.
I might also recommend the Resident Evils. Only cause one you’re thrown into that storyline, you read every document that comes your way, and every puzzle becomes a HUGE hassle if you didn’t take the time to read and pay attention to the details.
It’s got everything, from the violence, to the storyline, to the artwork, and the “never-let-you-go” gameplay. They have a version for PC.
Or you could get him The Orange Box and make him play through Portal.
…that’ll mess with your mind.

How do you teach a spendaholic the importance of money?

I have a 15 year old friend who comes from a wealthy family.

Her mother left her while she was young to go hit on younger men at bars… so to make up for it, her father gives her everything and anything she wants.

She claims she spends money for no reason because her college fund is already settled, and she has a lot of money. I suggested she save her money, but she said she doesn’t need to (suggesting that she doesn’t need to because it’ll never run out).

She spends her money on useless things she never uses, and spends it to buy items on online games.

A dollar is a joke to her.

A dime is close to dirt to her.

What’s your ideas on the importance of money?

A spendaholic is an addict. Addicts have to do their OWN recovery. Nothing a sympathetic person can do can start them on the road to recovery, except:

1. Don’t indulge their addiction
2. Don’t act like everything is normal, and deny the problem
3. Don’t operate your life “around” their issue*

*For parents, this is hard, because co-dependency worsens addiction, but parenting is a codependent relationship. You ARE responsible for their actions until they are 18. So for parents of underaged kids, TRYING to get them help is appropriate, but you may have to detach from the results. Very few addictive people respond to outside pressure with anything but self-justification, and “fake improvement.”
