How is this setup. Will everything be compatible? And is it good hardware?
Phenom X4 quad core 3.2 GHz

windows vista ultimate 64 bit
500 GB seagate hard drive
With a few other things and tax it will cost $ 1175 I will use for gaming and standard software.
The DDR3 is a waste of money. Note the Phenom is only capable of running memory in dual-channel.
Only the Intel Core i7 systems can take full advantage of triple-channel DDR3.
As far as the PSU goes, unless you plan to run two of those HD4890s in Crossfire, you do not need that 750W PSU.
The Phenom X4 is a 125-watt CPU (125 watts / 12 volts = 10.5 Amps), and the HD4890 has a maximum power draw of 190 watts (190 watts / 12 volts = 16 Amps). Rest of your system (1HDD, 1ODD, mobo + RAM) will pull another 5 amps or so.
Your system will pull a maximum of 32 Amps. You don’t need that Corsair 750W PSU with its 60 Amps on the +12V. Just the Corsair 550W with 41 Amps on its +12V is already way more than plenty for your config.
Game Engine / Editing Software?
I’ve been looking into possibly making a hobby of Map and/or Model developing. I’m a big fan of the valve games, such as Left 4 Dead (L4D), Team Fortress 2, and Portal. I own “The Orange Box” and L4D 1 and 2 for the XBOX 360, and I’m just dying to jump into making / editing my own video game in some way.
Now, the problem is that I’d much rather NOT have to spend the extra money to repurchase the above mentioned games just so I can get the Source Editing software (free), since I already own the games.
I did download Reality Factory last night, and after glancing at it, I’m not so sure if it really is what I was looking for.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a free game engine, or should I just give in and buy the PC versions of the Valve games?
What’s better?
Thanks.
Not sure.
